Ride
Llanquihue
The ride takes place in the Cayutue and La Vigueria volcanic eruptive center in the Liquiñe-Ofqui fault zone, this is the place where we will ride to the Cayutue lagoon, we will discover a geological past while enjoying the ride.
Volcano state: inactive.
Morning transfer from Puerto Varas to the Ralún area very close to Cochamó. We will join a gravel road that accesses the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Here the horses and the baqueano will be waiting for you promptly.
After a briefing, we'll saddle up and begin our 1.5-hour ride along the trail that gradually ascends into the temperate forest. We are surrounded by a volcanic field that occupies a low area between the southern end of Ensenada Cayutué, the southern extension of Todos los Santos Lake, and the northern end of the Reloncaví Estuary, where the Petrohué River, which drains Todos los Santos Lake, reaches the mar.
La Viguería and Volcán Cayutué are the main cones. The formation of the La Viguería cone and associated lava flows temporarily dammed the Petrohué River around 3,000 years ago, forming an ephemeral lake that filled with deposits from the Calbuco and Osorno volcanoes.
Pyroclastic cones and lava flows of the Cayutué Volcano filled the Ensenada de Cayutué depression, separating Todos los Santos Lake from Ralún Bay. Incredible geology and nothing to fear. At least for the last 3 centuries... Arriving at the Lagoon we will be able to dismount, relax, while the guide and the baqueano will be preparing a simple but delicious lunch on the grill. The return is by the same path.
